Assignment 1a

1. What is your first name only (NOT last name)

Liz

2. Why are you taking this class and what do you hope to learn

I am taking this class because humanities seems like an interesting subject to explore and because it is offered online. I hope to learn more about different aspects of liberal arts and how they differ in different Western and non-Western cultures.

3. How far do you live from SRJC main campus (go to google, maps to get the SPECIFIC answer; for this you type in your address and 1501 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA to find the exact mileage. EXAMPLE: 2.6 miles from campus. The goal here is to use new tools available to us. You can always come back to edit this)

I live 18.3 miles from the main campus.

4. What do you think of when you think "California"? Does this differ from what non-Californians think and if so, how?

When I think of California, I think of diversity, opportunity, and uniqueness. I believe that many non-Californians think of similar descriptions, however there are many false stereotypes about our state as well. Some people can only correspond sun, beaches, and movie stars to the state. This is because many movies and tv shows portray California as glamourous and care-free. Many times non-residents are swayed into believing that California is centered directly around Hollywood and forget to focus on all the different areas and aspects that "the Golden State" has to offer.

5. Have you created a blog or webpage in the past?

No I have never created a blog or a webpage before.

6. Regarding computers, are you on a mac or a pc?

I mostly work from a mac (my personal laptop), but when I am at school or using my home computer I will be working on a PC.

7. What was your January 20th, 2009 like, or what do you remember of this day?

My January 20th was a normal day of school except for the first half of my morning. That is becuase it was the day of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. My art class met with several other classes in the Santa Rosa campus Art Gallery to watch the event on a big screen projector. I have to say that one detail of this day I will always remember would have to be the student and staff reaction when President Obama was sworn into office. When the new President took his oath, the whole room errupted with excited screams and applause. The energy was electrifying and it was a fun and memorable way to experience the inauguration. :)
